Towing something behind your caravan
Compiled by Mark Lowe.

The Caravan manufacturer (JurgensCi) does not advocate fitting a tow bar to the rear of a caravan as they quite rightly say that the Caravan's chassis was not designed with this in mind and that the towing dynamics may be seriously affected. That said however, I have seen numerous caravans with tow bars attached to the rear, either towing a boat, trailer or even just used as a bike rack. Personally, I would not go this route with a conventional caravan.

As far as the legal implications are concerned, the law states that the total overall length of the towing combination may not exceed 20m and more importantly, if the combined mass of the caravan and the second trailer/ boat etc exceed 1360kg both towed vehicles require service brakes.
